Selecting a Dance Studio
Dance
is for Everybody
Murrysville resident Marsha Kulick was teaching a few private
dance students when she determined there was a need for a
"serious artistic school of dance" in the east suburbs.
So two and a half years ago she opened Ballet Westmoreland
to address that need.
Since then, students who have trained with her cadre of professional
teachers have gone on to participate in some of the best summer
programs in the country. However, Kulick is quick to assure
parents that "dance is for everybody," and their
child does not have to be contemplating a career with the
Royal Ballet to enjoy classes at Ballet Westmoreland. Children
with a love of dance deserve to be taught correctly, she said.
After all, "not every child will grow up to be Einstein
but that does not mean we withhold math lessons" she
added.
Most importantly, they deserve to be taught by caring professionals
in a manner that does not jeopardize their growing bones,
developing ligaments, and tender psyches. "We do not
bully children," said Kulick, "Each student will
have a wonderful time."
Ballet
Westmoreland offers the best of everything, including high
quality music, internationally renowned guest teachers, a
wonderful performance floor, and ample room for parents to
view the lessons in progress. Along with ballet, students
can learn jazz, Spanish, Hungarian, and Flamenco dance forms,
and can start as young as three.
When searching for a dance school, Kulick said parents should
look for a facility with proper fire exits and a resilient
floor- not something placed over concrete. They should insist
on a facility where they are welcome to observe classes in
progress, as well as one that offers classes with guest teachers.
They should carefully check the credentials of the faculty
members, not just ask "When and how much." All of
that and much more will be found at Ballet Westmoreland.
